Joan's Personal Chef Service: She's Cooking So You Don't Have To Delicious Meals Customized To Your Lifestyle, Your Dietary Requirements

    By Lori Catozzi Cook

If you spend a lot of time cooking in the kitchen when you'd rather be at- tending to your family, or if you are an independent senior who finds preparing healthy meals a challenge, or a busy career-oriented person who is tired of take- out, then you probably are in need of Joan's Personal Chef Service.

"I can help you solve your 'What's for dinner?' dilemma with delicious home cooked meals prepared in your own home," says Joan Watson of Joan's Personal Chef Service. "I can give you the time to do the things you enjoy most rather than worrying about meal planning and preparation."

Watson helps families sit down to a delicious, healthy meal in little or no time. She offers outstanding food personalized to your particular tastes and prepared in your home. Families can spend less money and even eat healthier than restau- rants or take out. Joan's Personal Chef Service gives you back hours of free time that you had previously spent planning meals, shopping at the grocery store, unpacking and prepping food, cooking, and cleaning up afterward.

"For more than 30 years I was an elementary school teacher," says Watson. "I loved my chosen career, was passionate about the success of my students, and truly enjoyed getting to know them and their families. Because of my busy weeks, I would often unwind and spend my Saturdays watching cooking shows on PBS and cooking food for the upcoming week. I found it very relaxing, plus we always had good nutritious meals ready to go."

Watson continues by saying that once retired she decided to do something that she was passionate about, while at the same time helping others. "While glancing through a cooking magazine, I saw an ad about becoming a personal chef. I decided it was the perfect thing for me. I spent some time researching and planning, and when I finally did retire, in 2006, I put a series of ads in The Monadnock Shopper. They wrote a story about me and my new business. The day that story ran my phone started ringing. I've been 'cheffing' ever since!"

Says Helen Pracon, a client of Joan's Personal Chef Service: "I am a diabetic. Joan has many skills that help people with various problems like mine. She is very good for people who are elderly or on special diets. I'm also very fussy," she continues. "We go over all my likes and dislikes from the meals she's made me, and when Joan goes to the Brattleboro Food Co-op, she knows I like a special peanut butter that I can only find there. She is very punctual, honest, trustworthy, and knowledgeable about food. I highly recommend her."

"After a consultation with you, I will plan your meals, do the grocery shop- ping, come to your home to prepare your meals, package them according to your instructions, and clean up," Watson says. "My schedule is flexible depending on the needs of my clients. Some require meal preparation weekly, some bi-weekly, and others on a monthly basis. In the case of elderly clients, my service helps them to remain independent and in their own homes."

The menu is limitless and Joan will prepare meals according to her clients' likes and dietary needs. There is a menu of entrees listed on her Web site that many clients enjoy. She will however happily prepare whatever clients want, whether that is family favorites or foods that meet particular dietary requirements.

"I love meeting new clients and helping them put nutritious meals on their table," she adds. "I relish the challenge of researching recipes and preparing foods that are within my clients' guidelines. Whether these meals are low-sodium, low- fat, diabetic, gluten-free, or absent of ingredients to which my clients are allergic, the bottom line is they taste good and are nutritious. And, because of the varied needs of the many clients who have used Joan's Personal Chef Service, I have developed quite a collection of recipes to accommodate those dietary needs."

Joan's Personal Chef Service is not a catering business. Joan has regular clients and prepares meals for them on a regular basis. "My service helps people to eat well and to have more time for other important things," Watson finalizes.
